On June 10, 2021 El Montevideo residents started a protest against the installation of an AT&T tower at the corner of Calle Fernando and Camino del Norte. This was the day construction was planned to start.
Neighbors occupied the corner under a shade structure and blocked the area with cars. On behalf of Dr. Rima Laibow--whose house is just 20 feet from the tower site--lawyers sent out three cease and desist orders.
By the end of the day, Ward 6 Council Member Steve Kozachik called to say that AT&T had agreed to delay the construction until September to allow time for "community discussion."
The residents are not sitting back and relaxing in the mean time. They have organized a "5G Community Meeting" on July 25th, 2021.
